DIY (liquid) laundry detergent

As I am sipping on some nice, hot coffee, I thought I would write another post. Ahhh, time goes by soo fast! :: le sigh :: ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is *pretty* much like the powdered recipe, however, there are a few differences that I thought I’d share :). One batch of the liquid laundry soap is 3 gallons, costing only $9.00 total (for 18 gallons). I’ll let you do the math on that one!

cast of characters:

~ 1 cup borax

~ 1/2 cup oxi clean

~ 1/2 cup washing soda

~ 1 barย  grated Fels Naptha (just grate it on the finest side of your cheese grater)

~ 3 gallons of water

~ (a 5 gallon bucket (not shown yet :)))

the plan:

1) Boil 4 cups of water, turn down the heat, and add the grated Fels Naptha, a little at a time. Stir until it’s totally dissolved.

2) Now you are ready to pour it into the bucket!

{I marked *exactly* where 3 gallons was on my bucket}

First add some hot water from the faucet into the bucket. Then pour the mixture, as shown …

Add all the rest of the dry ingredients, and mix …

And then just fill ‘er up with 3 gallons of water …

3) Let this sit overnight, with a lid over it. The next morning, mix it up with your hands. It’ll look something a bit like this …

Or if this was all too confusing for you, check out this video, which explains all.

And voila! Liquid laundry soap ๐Ÿ™‚

(p.s. that laundry softener is coming soon. I promise.)
