who else will be up past midnight tonight?

We say we’ll do so many things. Go to Hawaii. Lose weight. Be a better sibling. We like to make resolutions to live the next year to the fullest.

And there’s nothing wrong with that. Really there isn’t.

But what if we all looked back on the previous year, and saw how much we’ve grown in Christ? And saw the new year as another year to yearn and desire to become more and more like Him? How much would that really change things?

I think a lot.

The New Year is a clean slate, a fresh start, and a reminder of how far we’ve come from the year before, and a blossoming of our hearts in a renewed passion for the Lord.

Maybe, in addition to the small goals you make this year, maybe even add some ones that will impact your soul…for eternity? It could be anything like reading the entire Bible this year, making a commitment to pray more, just…anything to draw closer to Him.

I’m about to start one of John MacArthur’s One-Year Devotionals, a gift I cherish from this Christmas. To read this in order to learn how to be a Mary rather than a Martha. And I’m taking the Dare, a challenge to write down 1000 things I’m thankful for that the Lord has given me. I want to draw closer to my King this year.

Of course, I also want to overcome my fear of spiders ::ahem:: πŸ™‚

So what are your New Year’s Resolutions? Can you share some ideas?

  1. I want more of Jesus in my life, work and family! πŸ™‚ so glad for a new year! Love new beginnings! And it’s my anniversary! πŸ™‚ (I know who I will kiss at midnight! ) I am glad that last year is over, lost my mom. The Lord gives and He takes away, blessed be his name! Wonder What God has in store?

    • It’s your anniversary? How exciting! I hope you had a great time πŸ™‚

And yes, that is one of my favorite verses. It’s *so* true and it’s so comforting to know that God is ALWAYS in control, even in our most difficult times. Praise Him!

  2. I am starting a new devotional tomorrow also. Its called Jesus Calling. In every other devotional I have the scripture is written out for you but with this one you are required to look them up…I think this is a grand idea…..makes a person more pro-active in their devotional reading….as for resolutions well I never ever make them but I do think of things I would like to either change or at least make better….for some reason the start of a new year gives incentive to make changes even tho its just ”another day”’ it seems different….God has the perfect plan for all of us….hooray

    • Wow, that is a really neat idea! To have to look up all the verses…I will definitely look into that one ::grin:: Sounds like a great devotional πŸ™‚

And, yes, I’m also looking forward to God’s plans this year. His plans are ALWAYS the best! πŸ˜€
